Russian court orders block of Telegram, regulator blocks millions of IP addresses belonging to Google and Amazon

On April 13, 2018, a Russian court ordered that access to the messaging service Telegram be blocked in Russia, following the platform's repeated refusal to hand over its encryption keys to the FSB, the Russian security agency. After the Russian Supreme Court rejectedTelegram's appeal on March 20, 2018, Russian telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor had indicated that the platform would be blocked unless it complied with the order to hand over its encryption keys within 15 days, and had filed a lawsuit on April 6, 2018.
